Anyway, there's not much online info for these old-tech carbs, so I thought I'd share my experience rebuilding one. Specifically, the PHM38SD was used on the 400 LC4s, and the PHM40SD was used on the 620 LC4s. In addition, we generally recommend a flat cylinder plug with barette exhaust while the round bushel would be better suited to cylinders with booster or oval exhaust.DellOrto PHM carbs were used on mid to late 90's KTMs, and probably some other euro bikes as well. We note that a round bushel is the best choice for driving every day with ease of adjustment, low consumption, excellent performance at high speeds, very good stability (although the fashion is oriented to low-end flat bushels. The flat bushels generally used on motocross, offer more engine response (the engine responds faster to the opening of the bushel), there are also special flat bushels versions suitable for competition, track, and high speeds. Round valve carburetors are easier to adjust over the entire rev range, for example from 4000 to 16000 rpm. Here is the DELLORTO VHSB 38 DS carburetor, the most violent carburetor! Parameterized to be efficient, it is a model intended and adjusted for rotax max 2-stroke engine, flexible assembly with lever choke, without separate greasing or vacuum connection and socket for antifreeze circuit.
